During the Gospel Coalition conference in 2013, Kevin DeYoung gave a thoughtful, spirit-led sermon on Luke 15. He was able to bring new, challenging perspectives to this well-known passage. The passage is below, followed by the video of his sermon, followed by some notes on his sermon.
1 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.
2 And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."
3 So he told them this parable:
With conflict, we tend to struggle between two extremes of response: either we pray and don't act, or we act without prayer. Alex describes how Nehemiah found the balance of these two, and transformed a bad situation into something blessed by God.
Are you discouraged? God has grace for us. In the presence of God we can find strength when we're weak and joy when we're discouraged. Let's come to the Lord in stillness.
