Reflection

Fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame, fame...by Julie Moore

Tom Cruise as Stacy Jaxx –
Fame made him pure-T
cray-zeeee.
I’ve been thinking about my last post – about how big my head got just because I had an article in the paper that people complimented – and it occurred to me… If putting myself out there in such a mild way was so … um… harmful for me, clearly I wouldn’t be able to handle a bigger piece of that pie… I mean, how do pastors do it?

My own brother has worn “the cloth,” so I am well aware that pastors are just people, they’re out there… writing weekly sermons, and maybe articles and books… people see them every week or so, focus on their words, and maybe even take notes, and follow up with an email or other attempt to discuss. Beloved one, know the assurance of your Father's blessing, his presence, his favor, and his surrounding grace.

The Graft-A Devotional by Joni Eareckson Tada

Joni_Eareckson_TadaI am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5

As a child, I remember early spring and grafting time in my Uncle Don's apple orchard. My uncle would run his hand over the bark of the apple tree, finding just the right place to peel it away and make a slanting cut into the heart of the wood.  He would then take a small branch, make a cut in the tree, and push the graft down into the damp wood of the tree. Later that spring, new life would emerge. Blossoms to buds to fruit. I've heard that one tree can bear over one hundred different kinds of apples. But it does not come without a wounding in both tree and branch.
