Power for a Purpose
"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

When Alfred Nobel discovered an explosive element that was stronger than anything the world had known at the time, he asked a friend and Greek scholar for a word that conveyed the meaning of explosive power. The Greek word was dunamis, and Nobel named his invention "dynamite."

On any given day it can seem as if Earth itself is a terrorist as grotesque shape-shiftings of the physical world occur. Floods destroy property, volcanoes erupt and disrupt travel schedules of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people; and, earthquakes ravage families and communities. Each of these calamities kill, maim and break the hearts of untold numbers of people. A world without hope, held captive by these reigns of terror? It is not a trite platitude that our essence is spirit, and this spirit supersedes anything that we encounter in the physical world. It is not that our bodies don’t bleed when cut and our bones won’t fracture when stress is applied. Rather, it is that Christ’s spirit can provide sustenance and strength when the disorder of this world tears into the lives of ourselves or those we lift up into His arms. If we direct our minds to be a territory wholly overseen by Christ’s spirit, then He is able to minister His grace-soaked acts of love to those affected.
