sky2Kindness: The quality of compassion and generosity, characteristic of God’s dealings towards the weak and poor, and demanded of believers.

The kindness is also shown in the words and deeds of Jesus Christ.

(ESV) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law..

What does it mean to be kind–from a God/Jesus perspective? What examples of kindness are in the Bible and what do they tell us? Why is kindness such a big deal? What keeps us from being kind to everyone–genuinely kind?

The kindness of God To all

  1. Acts 14:17 Paul to the pagans at Lystra. 17 Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”
  2.  Jeremiah 9:24; 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
  3. Luke 6:35 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”

The kindness of God To his people

  1. Isaiah 63:7 The Lord's Mercy Remembered 7 I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord, the  praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has granted us,  and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion,   according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
  2. Ezra 9:9; For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection[a] in Judea and Jerusalem.
  3. Isaiah 54:8; For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection[a] in Judea and Jerusalem.
  4.  Hosea 11:4 For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection[a] in Judea and Jerusalem.

The kindness of Jesus Christ

  1. Matthew 9:36 For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection[a] in Judea and Jerusalem.
  2. Mt 14:14; And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.
  3. Mt 20:34; And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.
  4.  Mk 8:2-3; “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. 3 And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.”
  5. Lk 7:13; And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”
  6. Ac 20:35; In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
  7. Heb 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Failure to acknowledge God’s kindness is a sin

  1. Psalm 106:7  Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,  did not consider your wondrous works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
  2. 2Chronicles 32:24-25; Hezekiah's Pride and Achievements 24 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death, and he prayed to the Lord, and he answered him and gave him a sign. 25 But Hezekiah did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart was proud. Therefore wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem.
  3. Romans 2:4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
