People sometimes assume that because I'm a progressive 30-year-old who enjoys Mumford and Sons and has no children, I must want a super-hip church-you know, the kind that's called "Thrive" or "Be" and which boasts "an awesome worship experience," a fair-trade coffee bar, its own iPhone app, and a pastor who looks like a Jonas Brother.
The Gospels don't preach family values.

My daughter will turn 10 this month. In many ways we have tried as much as possible to expose her to as wide a range of peoples and cultures. We have attempted to encourage a sensitivity and sensibility about racial differences but also human similarities.
It's time we start being brutally honest about the missional movement that has emerged in the last 10-15 years: Chances are better than not it's going to fail.
