Few movies have the audacity to present the painful truth of betrayal and abandonment by one's church and one's mother, and then show the power of forgiveness overcoming all. Philomena, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan does that, in this portrayal of the true story of unwed Irish mothers having their children taken away by the Magdalene Sisters and sold to wealthy American families in the 20th century. Philomena lives out the grace of forgiveness.
