Disciplined Spirituality

SylviaListen Isaiah 11:2-3. "The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him: the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears."

Be blessed in the name of the seven-fold Spirit of the Lord. These verses were perfectly fulfilled in Jesus. God put you in relationship with his Son so that his Spirit lives in you. In him you have the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and power, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

The psalmist asked for all of us, "Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me" (Ps 25:4-5). Be blessed as he responds to you as he said in Psalm 32:8. "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go." This pictures someone walking beside an ox, goading it along. It is the idea of coaxing, directing, instructing, and training until the ox is accustomed by practice to doing it the master's way.

God promises something more: "I will guide you with my eye." He can lead you with one look of his eyes, like that meaningful look you give someone eye-to-eye without a word being spoken. Be blessed to be always looking into his face to see his guidance.

God will direct you precisely. "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it' " (Isa 30:21). Be blessed as you hear him whisper, "Walk this way." If his word is to fight, let it be for his glory. If he says to wait, let it be with hope and grace
secure in his timing and sovereign hand. If his word is to flee, let it be with his permission and at his direction. If he tells you to offer a sacrifice of praise, let it be with thanksgiving that is a sweet savor to him. You can be confident that he is working out all things for good, whether or not you see it or feel it now.

Be blessed as you follow God's faithful direction. He will make you sensitive to his hand on your life. Be blessed with assurance that you don't go anywhere today without your personal Guide. He opens doors that no one can shut and closes doors that are outside his purposes for you (Rev 3:7-8). Let the blessing of his presence lead you. Don't go where he does not bless (Exo 33:12-16).

Be blessed to know his eyes are open to all your ways (Jer 32:19). Let your expectation be centered in him (Ps 62:1,5). As he directs your paths, he promises that he will keep you in perfect peace as you fix your eyes on him, because you trust in him (Isa 26:3). Be steadfast and fix your hope completely in him and rely on him, as you know that all things are totally in his hands, for Jesus' sake.

Be blessed in the name of the One who guides you in paths of righteousness for his name's sake (Ps 23:3).
