EdDobsonWhat is important for a member of a church?

Ed Dobson, retired pastor of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, MI, an advisory editor for Christianity Today, and a guest speaker at Mars Hill Bible Church, spoke on this. He discussed what is elemental for being a Christian and being a part of a congregation. Foremost: prayer and study of the Bible.

Dobson noted that the people in the chairs (the audience/ congregation), while they could enjoy coming to a cool worship service and drink coffee inside the sanctuary/auditorium, enjoy a rocking band lead them singing great worship songs, there was more to attending a meeting than just sitting and being entertained.

There was participating—actively—in some of the many possibilities the church offers. He described a box at the back of the room where the congregation could provide money for support for various missions/activities. All in all, a powerful sermon on what it means to be a part of the body of Christ, feeding oneself daily through prayer and bible study while engaging with others.
