On October 11, 2010, NT Wright presented the Gray Lecture at the Duke Divinity School's 2010 convocation and pastor's conference. The topic: The Living Witness: Tradition, Inovation, and the Church. The sermon focused on why did Jesus live? What is the gospel in the gospel? Wright notes that the creeds (Apostle's or Nicene) zoom from Jesus's birth to his crucifixion and resurrection. For Wright, the gospels are  the story's divine intervention for his people, and how what God is doing for Israel is what God is doing for the world, while also being the beginning of  the story of the church itself.
