Are you thirsty? What are you thirsty for?
Water is second to air in its essentialness for our life. Throughout the Old and New Testaments God points us again and again to how he meets our thirst, whether it is for physical or spiritual survival. The following is part one in a series on how God answers our thirst. First let's look at scriptures in the Old Testament that remind us that God is the creator and sustainer of all that is. He is the one who quenches our thirst and replenishes our cups again and again. By Him our cups overflow.
Proverbs 8:28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep,
Isaiah 41:18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
Jeremiah 17:13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake thee shall be put to shame; those who turn away from thee shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living water.
Ezekiel 47:9 And wherever the river goes every living creature which swarms will live, and there will be very many fish; for this water goes there, that the waters of the sea may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.
Deuteronomy 8:7 For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills,
Song of Solomon 4:15 a garden fountain, a well of living water, and flowing streams from Lebanon.
Ezekiel 34:13 And I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the fountains, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
Revelation 14:7 and he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, for the hour of his judgment has come; and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the fountains of water."
Isaiah 41:17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
Isaiah 49:10 they shall not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun shall smite them, for he who has pity on them will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them.
