From the Christian Classics website--

For five hundred years, this gentle book, filled with the spirit of the love of God, has brought understanding and comfort to millions of readers in over fifty languages, and provided them with a source of heart-felt personal prayer. These meditations on the life and teachings of Jesus, written in times even more troubled and dangerous than our own, have become second only to the Bible as a guide and inspiration.

Prayers from the Heart

Prayers_from_the_HeartIn the foreword to Prayers from the Heart, compiled by Richard Foster, the author describes his aim to live “as a portable sanctuary”, experiencing each moment as a sacrament, so God can live as completely in and through him as possible. To assist in this journey, Foster compiled prayers that he hopes will “usher us into the loving heart of God.” He arranges the prayers into three journeys (inward, upward and outward), with a variety of guides, ranging from St. Francis of Assisi, Evelyn Underhill, Mother Teresa, Alan Paton, A.W. Tozer and Christina Rosetti, among others.

Thinking on Jesus Each Hour, Frank C Laubach

arbor2Practicing God’s Presence

To his followers Jesus said ‘Come with me, walk with me, talk and listen to me, work and rest with me, eat and sleep with me, twenty-four hours a day for three years.’ That was their college major. ‘He chose them,’ the Bible says, ‘that they might be with him,’ 168 hours a week! All who have tried this kind of abiding for a month know the power of it—it is like being born again from the inside out. It absolutely changes every person who does it.

Worry

worry

Do we trust God to take care of each and every one of our troubles, or do we act like there is a quota of our troubles that he deals with and then God says, “no more!”? Having God as our Lord means Lord of everything, our joys and triumphs, our boring times and the times we are filled with worry and troubles seem to fill our days. He is our redeemer.

Then whoever invokes a blessing in the land shall bless by the God of faithfulness, and whoever takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of faithfulness; because the former troubles are forgotten and are hidden from my sight.-Isaiah 65:16
