The True Nature of Grace and Love: a movie review of the Soloist

The 2009 movie The Soloist is based on a book by the same name, written by Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez. It portrays the real-life story of Lopez (Robert Downey, Jr.) and a homeless schizophrenic, Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx). A Juilliard dropout, Ayers has landed on the streets, his belongings reduced to a shopping cart of trash.

Akeelah and the Bee: movie review

Akeelah and the Bee (2006) is a warm, family friendly story about an 11 year old middle schooler from an under privileged neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Akeelah, played by Keke Palmer, smart and with an aptitude for spelling, but is afraid to let it show to avoid ridicule from her schoolmates, and friends. She refuses her principle’s urging to enter the school’s spelling bee, but finally submits to avoid detention—and wins! This begins a long and hard road to the national competition in Washington, D. C.

Fireproof: movie review

Fireproof (2008) is the second Christian movie produced by Albany, Georgia’s Sherwood Baptist Church. It focuses on the problem of marriage breakdown in America.
The story involves Caleb, a young firefighter, and Catherine, his working wife, who are about to divorce because of constant arguments, marital conflict and temptations. He is becoming addicted to internet porn and she is contemplating an extramarital affair.

When Nate Saint (Chad Allen), and four other missionaries, Jim Elliot (Sean McGowan), Ed McCully (Stephen Caudill), Pete Fleming (Matt Lutz) and Roger Youderian (Patrick Zeller), fly in to make contact with the tribe, they are brutally speared to death by Mincayani (Louie Leonardo) and his tribe.
